We bought our house in Dewsbury earlier on this year. We went to their branch to make the offer on the house official. We looked wet and windswept, and they were very rude... that is, until they realised how much ready cash we had, having already sold our respective houses. Then their manner changed very suddenly, and they showed the courtesy you'd hope for when dealing with professionals.
My partner was dealing with the death of his father at the time, and I carried out all the research around surveyors and solicitors. I sent the solicitor's details through to the branch... and then they phoned my partner to confirm they were correct. (Sexist, too... don't you love it?)
I hate to think what the experience would be like if you were a single female; it was offputting enough as it was. If it hadn't been for the fact that we really loved the house then we would have walked away after that initial reception.
I know that if and when we sell, we'll find an agent who's a bit more courteous to prospective buyers!
