OpenRent will not protect your money!!!
This website gives you false sense of security. They tell you that they will protect your holding deposit and you will pay the first rent and deposit to their website but when you actually have a problem, they behave like they don't know what you are talking about.
I have paid a holding deposit to OpenRent and then met a rogue landlord who changes the contract and the terms at the last minute. After situation like that is normal to loose trust in that person and to not willing to deal with him again.
In this case the landlord has to return the holding deposit, but instead the landlord wants to keep it against the law.
I have exchaned lots of emails with OpenRent explaining the situation, and the answer of every email is "Please deal with the landlord" despite the fact that I've told them that I don't really want to deal with this landlord and I'm looking tor OpenRent's help to get the deposit back. Every answer by OpenRent to my emails was ignoring my actual question, it felt like the people that are answering these emails are not reading my emails at all! This type of communication can be frustrating!
If you think they the fact that you are paying your money to OpenRent instead to the landlord will keep your money safe, I believe you are doing a big mistake. They are keeping these money and don't care about you as a tenant.
After an official complaint to OpenRent they have decided that they have not enough evidence to support my claim and they have given the holding deposit to the landlord.
If you want to avoid situations like that, I would suggest when you go to meet the landlors you should have a camera and sound recording device, so later you can proove what happened. You should also record all of your phone calls with the potential landlord and OpenRent as well so later you can have more evidence.
I'm sorry I wasn't prepared with camera and sound recording devices, and also I did not recorded my phone calls. I behaved like a normal honest citizen expecting the same from OpenRent and the landlord, but obviously it didn't happen.
At the moment I've lost about £400 holding deposit and lots of time trying to talk to these people!
I would honestly never recommend OpenRent to any of the people I know!!!
I would never again try to rent trough OpenRent!!
If you are looking for a normal professional letting agent just go to any reputable local high street agent where you can talk to them in person.
You should never experience what I did with this company!
