In my experience of living in an RNL managed property, RNL spend more time and energy protecting the interests of unscrupulous greedy landlords than they do bothering to listen to their tenants. During our time here, we have seen them try and justify illegal revenge evictions during the height of lockdown, minimise and ignore the problems of tenants who have been made severely ill due to damp and mould in their homes, passing the book between a maddening maze of letting agents and landlords to shirk responsibility, and defend the landlords attempts to price gouge their tenants out of their homes, raising the rent by over 30% during the pandemic (over 15 times the average national rate of rent inflation!!). Our neighbours were forced to find new accommodation at 2 weeks' notice during the height of lockdown - one of those neighbours was a nurse whose household was recently recovering from a case of COVID. One tenant was made so ill by mould and damp that they were rehoused in 'emergency accommodation', but even this alternative accommodation had similar problems of mould and damp. We have had to pester them for 6 months just to get them to give appropriate (legally required) notice on visits, and even then they still often get this wrong. They use Section 21s as 'standard practice' at the end of their tenancies - Section 21s are the leading cause of homelessness and widely understood to be unfair on tenants as they remove any flexibility for tenants at the end of their AST. They have made many of our lives difficult and miserable here at Montpelier Terrace, at a time when we needed understanding and respect more than ever. Avoid RNL like your health and happiness depends on it, because it does.
