Absolute Joke. If only I could give 0 stars.
I rented a property through Northfields, everything was smooth and really good when beginning. When our contract ended (12 months later) two of my flatmates wanted to extend the contract, however I assured Northfields I was moving out as per the agreed contract. They were supposed to create a new contract for the two flatmates that decided to stay for longer, however, they didn't. My name was still on the 'extended contract'. I still moved out on 4th of June 2020, a few days before the original contract was ending.
Our deposit was held under the Protected Deposit Scheme, which, according to Citizens Advise (see link at bottom of review) we should have received our deposit within 10 days of moving out, unless a dispute is raised (which it wasn't). I am aware Northfields messed up and therefore I woudn't get my deposit back until 10 days after my flatmates moved out which I just 'had to accept'.
My flatmates moved out in November 2020, it's now the 18th of February 2021, and we still haven't received our deposit. I seeked legal advice from a lawyer who said they could take action regarding this situation, however, before proceeding, I wanted to inform Northfields I was getting legal advise. I received a prompt reply (after being ignored a couple times) from Sarah Brown saying that the landlord had replied and they could release our deposit. I informed the lawyer and decided to let them return the deposit without having to take legal action. However, they still haven't returned it, and once again, my last couple of emails have been ignored. Technically this could be considered as theft as it's not their money to keep.
I'm very disappointed, and in future will avoid and recommend avoiding to anyone.
