AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!!!! WORST COMPANY I’VE EVER DEALT WITH.
Jade Ata is THE WORST and THE RUDEST woman I have ever dealt with. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. The heaps of negative reviews this company receives speaks for itself. This is going to be a long one…
First of all, I’d like to say that there are some good things about this company: The Printworks is a very luxurious apartment, and the office staff were very friendly; however, that’s about as far as it goes.
When signing up for this place, Jade Ata manipulated me into speedily securing the apartment: she told me I need to hurry up and send my deposit as somebody else was interested, and if I didn’t send the money by a certain time then it would be gone; this was clearly a lie, and she had said similar things to my sister who was also getting an apartment there. This was the first red flag, but I was desperate for this place, so I instantly sent the money over. She then told me she would email me the contract, which I would have to sign before moving in, within 3-5 working days… 11 days later I hadn’t received it and my moving day was fast approaching, so I was panicking. I sent Jade an email asking where it was: no reply! It’s like as soon as she had my money, she didn’t care about anything else. Frustrated, I gave the office a call and a few days later I finally received the contract: 16 days after sending my deposit and 2 days before my move in date! This felt extremely unorganised, even more so because my sister had moved into her apartment a few days before and had had a very similar experience with them.
Apart from this, I had received no contact from Jade regarding my moving in, so I was getting worried; I even emailed her the day before asking if everything was set for me to move in the next day but there was no response! It then came as no surprise that when I arrived to move in the office staff were OBLIVIOUS; there is clearly a lack of communication between Jade and her staff. Luckily, I was still able to move in that day, but had to wait a few hours for the apartment to be ready.
I finally got to the apartment and was disappointed with its size; Jade had told me I had to pay for a slightly more expensive, and thus bigger, apartment because that’s all that was available, however, my sister had just moved into her standard sized apartment and the difference was hardly noticeable – actually, my sister’s felt bigger! This felt like a scam and is proof of how over-priced these apartments are – for reference, I was paying £629 pcm, and my sister £607 pcm. To make matters worse, the apartment wasn’t even that clean and the furniture was shabby: one of the kitchen drawers had food mess in it, and the sofa had a rip in it.
I soon discovered many problems with The Printworks:
- The hot water constantly went off.
- The heating was controlled by Noble, so you couldn’t turn it on yourself.
- The gym had no air conditioning which was brutal during the summer.
- The washing machines/dryers were overpriced and dirty.
- Wi-Fi was awful.
- My mood light remote didn’t work – staff promised they would fix it but never did.
- I didn’t get a desk chair in my room – again, staff promised they would sort it but never did.
- The lift kept breaking down, which was awful for someone like me who lived on the top floor.
- Workmen would walk across the balcony area in front of my room without warning, meaning they had full view into my room, which felt like an invasion of privacy.
- My apartment was SWELTERING during summer; I had to sit there with the blinds closed, windows open, fans on and a little amount of clothes on and was still sweating buckets. One day the apartment reached 33 degrees Celsius!
One day, I received a rude email from Jade telling me I had gone over my electricity limit by £3 – I have no idea how this had happened. Jade threatened that I would have to pay anything over the limit if this happened again. Now, this wasn’t too bad, but the email was SO RUDE it was unbelievable. What made this worse was that I had had little contact from that woman – she would constantly ignore my emails – and this was proof that she was only interested in contacting me when money was involved!
Also, my apartment kept flooding when there was heavy rain (my neighbour’s apartment, too) – this was an absolute NIGHTMARE. The first time it happened JADE WAS ABSOLUTELY USELESS; we phoned her, and she acted like she honestly couldn’t care less! She then said she was going to send someone over in a bit, so we waited… nobody came until the night-time and it was the night security who was supposed to be in the building anyway. Luckily, the security was extremely comforting to us and the flooding had dried by then, but I was not pleased that Jade had left us alone all day to deal with it. Because of the flooding, there was water damage to the wall; I told Jade about this several times via email, sent her pictures of it, etc. and shock: there was no reply! I begged her to reply, and when she finally responded she rudely and abruptly told me to contact maintenance without even telling me how to! Eventually, maintenance contacted me, and they were very nice and compassionate about the situation – a complete contrast to Jade’s approach! Fortunately, I didn’t get charged for the damage, which was what I was worried about, but it was never sorted whilst I was there.
Fast forward to the pandemic, I was put on furlough and could no longer afford the pricey rent, so I tried to tell Jade about this. She was instantly rude and immediately demanded proof that I was on furlough (like this was just so unbelievable!!); she was extremely difficult, rude, and kept refusing to respond. Jade also made threats to take me to court and told me that she isn’t legally required to help me. This made a very stressful situation even more stressful!
Before moving out I noticed the tenancy agreement stated that when a tenant moves out that they will be charged a minimum of £75 off their deposit for cleaning fees; I was shocked by this and it seemed excessive. However, after searching this up I discovered landlords were no longer allowed to do this. I decided to give my apartment a thorough clean before moving out and even took video proof of it before I left. After moving out, I received an email from Jade with an invoice of all the rent that I owed, and I noticed the £75 cleaning fee charge had been added as well as £30 for the window restrictors – this was beyond ridiculous:
- I never took the window restrictors off; they were off when I arrived and were sitting on the windowsill – how did they not know this?! Why was I being charged when they were literally still in the room?! I honestly believe this was purposely done and they thought they could get away with it.
- I immediately protested the £75 cleaning fee charge and Jade was rude and told me I left my apartment dirty! I was disgusted that this woman could make up blatant lies like this and offered to send my video as proof countless times, but she didn’t seem interested in seeing it! She then protested that she was allowed to do this, so I got citizens advice involved.
Citizens advice eventually had to get in contact with Jade as she was refusing to give up. The fact that something UNLAWFUL was sitting in the tenancy agreement is proof of how deceitful and dangerous this company is. She has charged countless tenants for this and has gotten away with it; I am so glad I protested! To make matters worse, I later saw a job advertisement for a cleaner at Noble… WHO WAS BEING PAID £8 AN HOUR?! So where has £75 come from?! This company is so thieving and dishonest! My sister went through the exact same thing with Jade, which means these experiences were not just limited to myself; this is not a one off and this is not by chance! I've also seen people on here say they've experienced similar things to me as well. The countless negative reviews speak for themselves. I never paid the disagreeable charges and have not heard from Jade since.
