I moved out of previous property because of damp problems, was renting from private landlord. Found Brentwoods, heard some positive feedback's about them. Thought should be good agency. Went for 2 house viewings, agent was on time and friendly. Choosed property i liked better, they did all checks quick and i moved in on July 2019. After couple of months when weather got colder damp started appear on walls. I reported. After that i been told to do not put my furniture that close to the walls. Ok, followed their advice but problem didn't disappeared, just got worse. Living room walls wet , hall way walls wet, reception walls wet. Around new years time they re-plastered 1 wall in living room and 2 walls in reception room. Didn't painted walls, left as it is just re plastered. I painted myself and asked them to pay me back for paints, they refused. Ok, fine by me , i am not gonna get poorer because of spending £15 for a paint. And they not gonna get richer.))
Problem back again, damp and wet patches all around same areas, my footwear, chairs, shelf's, clothes got ruined by damp, all ground floor stinks. They didn't took problem serious. I reported to council. It took a while for council to come and inspect the property.
I asked Brentwoods to reduce price for the property as i have been not able to use my reception room as it supposed to be. They refused and said if I am not able to pay rent I have to find another property. That was offensive because I am able to pay rent and asked to reduce price because they have let me to move in in bad condition property. Also i have requested to pay back for my damaged goods, all they do, just wasting time with excuses that problems need to be resolved first and then they will give me the offer. I been waiting so long, not waiting longer, letting solicitors to deal with this. The owner of Brentwoods is also owner of property I am renting. Now when council is involved they trying to find out where is the problem , why damp keep coming back. So they said is roof problem and started to repair roof, put dehumidifier in asked me to run dehumidifier every day non stop. I did 3 days i did not seen the result that wet patches disappearing, so i stopped using dehumidifier as is eating my electrics. Came repair jobs leader and asked why i am not turning on dehumidifier, i explain that i can't see the point and no one is paying for my electrics. So he reported to agency and they paid for electrics £30 and wanted me to use dehumidifier. Fine by me if they pay. Dehumidifier on, problem not disappearing. They came again. Checked under the floor and there surprise! Full of water . So now they dealing with swimming pool under floor. Will see how long is gonna take to repair this.
With minor problems they dealing very quick, Can't complain about that. Gas or electrics they try to sort out same day. But with serious big damp problems they dealing now almost 1 year and they expect me to waist my time , be at home when builders come to do repairs. Now owner has decided to sell the property so i have to manage to get free time to let other people into the property. At the moment i don't feel like I am in a house. Feels like every day is open door day and anyone can come in. I am a good tenant, paying rent on time, looking after the property, doing really my best to be a good tenant. But what i have received back? Headache, damaged goods, wasted time ( taking time of work). I am not that person who likes changing property's every 3 months. I like to live long in 1 place.
