I will try to summarise my recent experience with Winkworth (Islington).
At the beginning of September we went to see a property in Eagle Point building (Old Street Area). The viewing went really good, the Negotiator (George) was very kind and as we liked the property in less than 30 min we paid and let agreed the property.
Our moving date was the 30th of September, more than 20 days later, during that time, and since day one we have asked three simple questions:
- Does the property have fiber internet installation?
- Does the building have bike storage?
- When can the items that we don´t want be removed from the property?
The first one was never answered, the most accurate response we got was "we think so", the second one was wrongly answered that the building has not bike storage facility and we are still waiting for a response on the third one.
(FYI - The first two questions are answered on the property info document that we found when we moved in, so they were totally unaware of the characteristics of the apartment, very professional...).
Apart from these questions, during the process there was no updates, and I had to chase them on weekly basis.
On the moving date (30th) we come to the property for the check in inventory, and it was then when we realised that some aspects of the property were completely dirty (Oven, Taps, Toilet....) it was disgusting, so the first thing we did was to contact the Winkworth's Property Manger (Donna), which in a very defensive way, and without even apologising for the status of the property and the lack of hygiene (especially with the current Covid situation), said "You have not requested the property to be professionally cleaned"...
We were shocked, we reviewed the contract and as it happens with all tenancy contracts, there is a clause that specify that when you leave the apartment you must professionally clean the apartment, so we reply back to Donna and then she confirmed that apartment was professionally cleaned when the previous tenants left the apartment (all her response was in the same tone as the initial one, no apologies, all defensive, really impolite).
We replied back to her again, this time in a more serious tone, and complaining about her impoliteness but also to ask her for the proof that the apartment was professionally cleaned, because it would really surprise us if someone would say that the apartment was cleaned after looking into the photos we took, and for probably the tenth time to ask for when will they take the things that we don´t want from the property.
As you can imagine, there were no more responses, so we cleaned the apartment, as it was disgusting for us the lack of cleanliness and we have have just contacted the director of the Winkworth Islington branch, and write this review as we believe anyone thinking on hiring their services should think about it twice, regardless if you are a tenant or a landlord, but actually, if you are a landlord you have probably more to lose, as they will be talking on your behalf and I would never let someone like them to talk on my behalf.
