We moved to UK from Germany and needed a short let while looking for a home. Rented a 3 bed home in Richmond for £3950 a month via Sean Barrett at Richmond office. We clarified with Sean that all we'd bring were clothes and we needed a fully equipped place. He guaranteed this in writing and went so far as to say the place had been rented as Airbnb previously.
We arrived and found the place was filthy and not equipped. Basics like kitchen utensils, crockery, trash cans, bedding, towels etc. were not there. The furniture was filthy and one couch was so broken and stank so badly, we are sure it was picked off the street. We rented a 3 bed home and one room was off bounds as it was crammed to the ceiling with things so you could not even open the door. A second room was just a bare filthy stained matress with no bedding. The third room was the only one usable. Sean was not responsive when we called and emailed and only replied the following day. He said that he had cleaners in before we checked in who were shocked at the state of the place and they spent more than twice allocated time trying to get clean. He said the owner had only told him the day before we were set to arrive that she did not cook and had no dishes at all.
At this point we were stuck there as it was during lockdown when we had to quarantine for 14 days after coming into UK. So we were stuck cleaning the filthy place and some items like towels and a few bowels were sent to us so we could prep food in a limited fashion. He said he'd refund us the estate agent fees as the place was not fully equipped and we only had use of one bedroom.
When time came for checkout, I asked Sean to be there as we did not want issues with deposit refund. He said that the agents were not present at checkout and confirmed, in writing, that we would not have an issue as there was no check in inventory.
At checkout, I sent Sean pictures of the immaculate place we left and asked when we'd get a refund of deposit. He did not respond so I called him a couple times over next few days and got no response back until a week later saying the owner wants to keep part of deposit as we killed her plants in garden. This was a bold faced lie and we did not want to deal with this agent any longer. As soon as we got a third party involved before he swiftly refunded our deposit and did not hear from Sean again.
This put such a damper on our relocation to a new country. I would never recommend this agent/company
