From the moment I moved into the house I was renting with Harrisons estate agents in Bolton I have had nothing but issues.
The house was left in a unlivable state due to its dirtiness which meant I had to do a lot of my own painting and decorating the previously owner/tenant had left all of their belongings including a Commode in the dining room *, I took care of this and did not mention to avoid embarrassment.
Firstly (aside from the cosmetic issues) I reported damp in the bedroom which took 6 months for them to do anything about, every evening I would get into my bed where my sheets would wet from dampness and mould. I also had damp on my belongings. I secondly reported black mould on my bathroom walls which was resolved after 1 year of living in the property after having numerous contractors out to access the mould and claim that it was not just bad for my health but was actually in fact a leak coming from the attic which was only getting worse. nothing was ever done to permanently fix this, only to slow down the progress. When I did speak with my account managers I was belittled and told I should try opening a window as if that wouldn't be my first solution.
I learnt to live with the damp and it became bearable after I had been fitted an extractor fan in the bathroom.
I was later broken into from the back gate which was left broken and unlockable, after reporting this I lived in the property almost 4 years to which it was never fixed.
I constantly call to speak with my account manager to which she is never available to speak to, I am promised a call back to which I never get.
6 months into living in the property the toilet broke, this was then replaced with a cheap toilet leaving the bathroom tiles exposed and the bathroom looking like a building site, I had two bathrooms in the home and only one was useable which was located through my bedroom, meaning work men and women where able to walk through my bedroom as they pleased, the other toilet I was told needed a new ball joint which was never replaced. As this was my home I grin and bared it and covered what I could with paint to make slightly more aesthetically pleasing. The house was rather charming once I made it home.
along with the toilet breaking we also had a problem with the boiler, we had no hot water and had to stay with family for 2 weeks. at no point was any compensation or a rent deduction offered. This boiler was poorly fitted and left pipes exposed in the kitchen, pipes would get hot when water would flow, meaning I would occasionally burn myself.
I took photographs of all cosmetic damage including pulls to the carpet, damage to paint work, exposed gas pipes from the old fire as well as a dangerous flooring in the bathroom.
As mentioned I lived here for 4 years did numerous work on the house making it look as nice as possible, constant cleaning, never missed a rent payment and was what I would say a fantastic tenant. I kept my mouth shut about the fact my gas was only checked once in 3 years....
I unfortunately had to leave the property due to my job being relocated which was very sad as this had been my home for 4 years. upon leaving I had the home professionally cleaned and left it in a much better state than it had ever been.
I had to leave very promptly and although I was giving short notice and expected to pay a months rent I requested to be given some form of discount as I wouldn't be living there and they would be able to move someone else in straight away, this was declined.
fine.
2 weeks later I still do not have my deposit and I am being made to pay for labour and damage that I did not make, I have 2 pet cats which I paid a extra deposit to keep whom had made some slight damage to the top step of the stairs carpet (which as previously mentioned was already in a very poor state, being dirty, plucked and marked with what looked like an iron burn in the rear bedroom) happy for me to make a contribution to fix this out of my deposit, I was told the step itself would cost £40 but the labour a whopping £257, after ringing around numerous carpet fitters I have learnt that a small staircase (which it is) costs around £40 in labour so it seems to me I am paying for the entire building to be fit with new carpets.
The list goes on with the nightmares I have had with this property but I have remained polite and reasonable. Only now am i beginning to get extremely frustrated after asking to speak with either A. the landlord directly to find out where these atrocious quotes are coming from or B. the branch manager .
After asking over a week ago to speak with the manager and being very patient I still have not heard back from anyone and every time I call for my account manager (Katie) she is busy or out of the office which I am now wondering if she even works there as she never seems to be there. Therefore I feel this poor review is my last resort.
I will not have my good nature taken advantage of and I feel well and truly let down with what I had assumed from the beginning was a good agency.
I would like to make a separate note that I have found Francesca and Hannah very helpful over the last few years.
