I hadn't rented for over 16 years and so pleased never going to have to again! Overall very poor service by Stanley and Partners. Jody was always very professional and courteous though and would action requests very promptly. The rent was extortionate for what was a very tatty and old house. Bath panel held together with duck tape. Drawers broken in the kitchen. Ill fitting and cheap carpets. The list goes on! My first impression was maybe letting agents think that tenants, just because they rent, don't want to live in nice properties whilst the Landlords are making a fortune??!! Or maybe I my standards and expectations are higher than that of letting agents?? I moved into the property two weeks before Christmas. I went the initial four days without any gas and central heating as the boiler was 20 years old and way past its best! There was no emergency call out service and this incident fell over a weekend so my nine year old and I were left freezing until the Monday morning! The house was dirty when I moved in despite supposedly being professionally cleaned. I had to have the curtains dry cleaned at my own expense.
I moved out of the property early during Covid so was subjected to the extortionate early release fee of £700! The new tenants fell through as Covid hit so I was left paying the rent on this property and on my new property. The letting agents were totally unaccommodating with regards to finances and wouldn't allow me any grace or reduction in the rent over a longer period. They also still expected the carpets to be cleaned because I had had a pet and all the furniture to be removed despite the fact that all the removals and cleaning companies that I had organised cancelled! Always the get out clause of being under contract and the Landlord was due their rent despite being thrown into a totally unprecedented situation, which none of it of my doing! I am a key worker and I had had Covid symptoms so whilst all of this was going on I was trying to self isolate which was totally impossible!I was being caused immense stress with trying to move house with no empathy from the letting agent!
I managed to get the carpets cleaned, the windows cleaned by a friend and removals company to move my furniture all during a flu pandemic!! I think I did OK really? Otherwise I was going to be charged fully and lose my deposit! Although I had to be grateful to Jody because I had mowed the lawn prior to moving out as per contract but the next tenant hadn't moved in until a month later so the grass had grown obviously . She 'let me off' and didn't charge me for the grass growing???!!!!! Disgusting attitude by the letting agent in my opinion as I was nursing Covid patients who were dying in ITU and all Stanley and Partners cared about was whether the grass was mown!! You can see my frustration?! Wasn't really my top priority at the time!
I am very lucky now as a home owner again but feel sorry for all the renters out there who are subjected to extortionate rents for substandard properties where the ONLY consideration is for the Landlords. When really it should be a balance between them and providing a good service for the tenants?!
