We rented a flat from Webbers in Bideford for nearly 4 years.
Prior to moving in we highlighted a few issues we wanted sorting prior to moving in date - LED light bar in bathroom not working, scratches and dents on walls throughout property to be addressed. None of these where dealt with either prior to moving in or during the entire length of our tenancy.
I found that having a maintenance inspection every 3 months was quite intrusive (having rented from numerous private and property management companies before I have never experienced this frequency!) and we stated we wanted to be present for every inspection. Half the time they would turn up early and let them selves in before we got there ( I was early 30 mins once to make sure and still went in to the property to find the inspector in my kitchen!) or they would just cancel last minuet. Luckily I had a very understanding employer at the time who would let me nip off to deal with these appointments but if I hadn't then I'm not sure what I would have done.
We reported that the PVC sash windows where letting in huge drafts and it took the first 18 months of complaining and reporting it on every maintenance inspection before it was even looked in to. In the end after a building surveyor came out and recommended the windows where replaced, they fitted some very cheap and nasty secondary glazing instead.
When ever we reported anything to the maintenance department we where fobbed off or where told "its not due for replacement". We had a built in washing machine that came with the property and where constantly reporting it as it was very smelly and loud. It finally gave up the ghost in the 2nd year of tenancy and miraculously the following month after it was replaced Webbers where demanding a £50 a month increase in the rent.
When we moved out Webbers tried to charge us nearly £1000 to put right damages to the flat. We looked after the property like it was our own and it was quite a shock to see the extent of damage they claimed they had found. Most of these where fabricated and the ones that weren't were issues we had reported from when we first moved in to the flat! They then threatened us with legal action for loss of earnings during the negotiation process of this. We had to go through the Deposit Protection Scheme in the end as they would not budge at all, even when presented with evidence contrary to what they where claiming.
Dealing with Webbers was one of the most frustating experinces of my life and I cannot warn people enough about this firm. As I have said I have rented numerous properties from private landlords and management companies and never have I expereinced a lack of customer care like this. Absolute scam artists avoid at all costs!
