Paul Carr staff were excellent at the beginning of the house buying process, and we will be eternally greatfull for Michelles help when it came to getting our offer accepted.
But overall I feel slightly let down. As first time buyers, we were clueless about the whole process. And we do not feel as if we were kept in the loop. On completion day we did not recieve any phone calls at all. We had no idea what was going on. And when I called I was told I would be called back.. and that never happened. Our sellers did not recieve their keys till late in the day, which inturn meant we couldn't get our keys till late. Which wouldn't have been an issue, if only we were actually informed of the whole situation before we made our way to the office at 4pm. Which we were told to do - even though the office new the sellers were up against it time wise, and had only got their keys at 3pm. This made the whole day unnecessarily stressful for both parties.
I am fully aware that buying a house is one of the most stressful things to do, but I do think it could be made that little bit easier with better communication from yourselves.
I sent an email at one point after we had our mortgage accepted, just to ask for an update, and the response I got was along the lines of "I'm not going to ask any more questions to solicitors this week as I don't want to get on anyones nerves". I don't really feel that this was an appropriate response. I'm sure it wasn't intended to offend but I think a little more tact is called for when dealing with first time buyers who do not know the process as well as you do.
In the beginning I would have rated you highly. But as the purchase progressed it seems all communication stopped, and all consideration for our lack of experience was ignored.
On a more positive note, we are greatfull for the advice to see Pete at West Midlands Mortgage Centre. He has been a great help from start to finish. Nothing is too much trouble and always happy to put our minds at rest regardless. You also reccomend we use Walkers Solicitors in Walsall. They have also been fantastic and I would definitely use them again.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s important that we know how our customers feel and sometimes even though we are trying to excel, we need to tell people more of what we are doing to make them feel included. It was good advice at the time to not chase some solicitors or parties in a chain too aggressively as it is a fine balance between motivating people in a chain and upsetting them. Maybe we could communicate this better as it is never our intention to offend. Looking at the file notes, we seem to have had regular contact with updates when we had them, almost weekly, but I will certainly see if there’s more that we could have done and use it to improve our processes.
In relation to moving day it was our understanding that you weren’t finishing work until 4.00pm, so we didn’t keep you updated with all that was going on. Again, if this wasn’t the case then I apologise.
We will take all of the above on board and genuinely wish you all the best with your new home.
Chris
