“I have been a tenant of Countrywide Lettings ......”

I have been a tenant of Countrywide Lettings for over 10 years.
Throughout this time I have enjoyed living in the house and its lovely situation, but have continually had to complain about the inadequate sewage system. The pipes to the cess pit are collapsed and blocked, and as a result black putrid sewage water spews out into the garden. This must be both a public health risk and also an environmental issue. Despite constant complaints, nothing has been done to rectify the issue even though there is a nearby connection point to the main sewer.
But this is not my only complaint about Countrywide. They rarely provide a receipt for rent payments - which must be a legal requirement, and they also have filed to carryout other repairs to the roof and heating system, which I have since fixed myself. They then have refused to pay for the costs of replacement parts claiming that I should have got them to do the work.
They also keep sending me demands for rent payment when I have paid the rent and the cheques have cleared my bank weeks before.
In my view Countrywide have exhibited the worst possible conduct as a letting agent.

I can second this review. I was charged an admin fee of almost £500 when I moved into my apartment six months ago and have just received a letter stating that if I wish to renew for another six months, this will cost me £125! I have rented a number of properties with different agents in the past and have never been charged to renew the contract. I tried to negotiate with them and explain that as a single, unemployed parent it would be extremely difficult for me to find this extra money. Th ...
