We bought and sold a property using Gilson Gray.
After having to change solicitor at the last minute as our original choice wasn't on the lender's panel, we went with Gilson Gray. Not a great decision on our part. Initial contact was great and I was contacted by the Legal Director of Residential Conveyancing within an hour of enquiry.
But after that we ran into some problems. We received 2 different quotes from them - it was as though there was a communication breakdown in the company. And there was no apology for the confusion. We felt like we were passed around a bit. The paralegal originally dealing with our case stopped responding to emails. We were contacted by another paralegal but had had no explicit confirmation that our case would be handled by someone else. I felt like we had to chase for updates constantly - timescales or expectations just weren't managed properly. We ended up exchanging and completing on the same day which was awful - and the issues holding the case up were only discussed with us when WE called to chase. We completed a day later than expected which wasn't too bad - but we felt that dealing with Gilson Gray made the process more stressful than it needed to be.
Since we completed we have contacted the paralegal dealing with our case to query something - it took the best part of a week to get a reply to a really simple enquiry.
Comment on agent fees
Higher than other quotes originally received - not good value for money.
