The service we received from Winkworth, Harringay was truly shocking.
1. An agent let themselves into our flat, outside of an agreed time and without our knowledge for an unscheduled viewing. We returned from a walk to find the agent standing on our sofa, with his shoes on, opening a blind. The agent refused to introduce themselves. When we highlighted this as potentially illegal and unacceptable behaviour, Winkworth replied saying 'Whilst we strive for perfection it is difficult to attain. Thanks for your comments.' This comment can only be taken as sarcasm and they repeatedly refused to apologise.
2. In the end we had to involve the housing advice department in Haringey Council to write a letter of warning to Winkworth for interfering with our quiet enjoyment and for behaving in a manner that could be construed as harassment. We had to file a formal grievance with the Non-Exective Director of Winkworth in order to get anything close to an acceptable apology.
3. Winkworth missed an inspection but failed to tell us, even though I took time off work to be there. They claimed they had rescheduled but never bothered telling us.
4. Toward the end of our tenancy Winkworth became VERY aggressive regarding viewings. When we queried the frequency and times of viewings they stated 'We can just serve 24hrs written warning and come whenever we like'
We requested and received an apology for this comment.
All in all we found the entire encounter with Winkworth very distressing and since then we have vowed to never rent or buy through Winkworth or any other agent again.
What agent could do to change your mind?
The agency needs to act in a much more professional manner, respect the law and their clients. As you can see from my review above they stepped well beyond any acceptable mark of behaviour, customer service and even the law. They showed no signs of acknowledging responsibility for their behaviour or of the genuine distress they caused their own customers.
