Unfortunately, Oakwood Estates have managed to achieve the dubious title of worst estate agent I have ever had the misfortune of renting with. rnrnFirstly, we were given a move in date of one time - however, once we received a contract, the date for moving in was 2 weeks later than this...! This meant a huge deal of inconvenience for all of us as we had to move all of our things into temporary storage and find alternative accommodation.rnrnSecondly, the house was absolutely filthy when we moved in. We had previously enquired as to whether the house would have been professionally cleaned before our move in day, and were told that if we insisted on this it would cost £1000 (and that the equivalent would need to be paid when we moved out). We declined this extortionate cost, and unfortunately this meant it was an absolute pig sty. The drawers were full of rubbish in bin bags, the oven was disgusting and had clearly never been cleaned the whole of the previous tenancy, the freezer was entirely frozen over... and we ended up having to clean this before we could move our things in. This took all 5 of us, hours. We received nothing in return, not even an apology. rnrnWe had multiple issues with the house we rented subsequently (damp, faulty showers, cracked floors) which were reported in a timely manner by us, but were never fixed. We received no reduction on our rent either to compensate. rnrnHalfway through our tenancy we got burgled. This was hugely distressing, and a number of valuable items were stolen from us. We reported the break in immediately - and all we received in return was criticism. It must have been our fault, they said, as we didn't double bolt the door - but do bear in mind we never received a key for this second bolt!! We were initially asked to pay extra to fix the door which had been kicked in on account of this, despite this clearly being covered by the landlords house insurance as per the contract. This entirely unfair accusation and lack of empathy in a hugely distressing situation shocked and appalled us all. rnrnThings went from bad to worse when we came to moving out. We (despite of course being able to leave the house âin the same state as which is was foundâ), left it spotless. We even pressure washed the patio! rnrnWhen it came to getting our deposit back, we received a ridiculous statement saying that an enormous amount of money would be taken from us for âmissing itemsâ (like the rubbish bags from the drawers when we moved in?) and, worst of all, for cleaning costs. How they had the cheek to claim this considering the state of the place when we moved in is beyond me. rnrnWe treated this house with nothing but respect, and actually loved living there and in the community surroundings. It was horribly unfortunate that we are left with the sour taste in our mouths from the way we were treated by Oakwood Estates. rnrnWhen we confronted them about the obscene costs we were faced with, and the shock and horror we felt at their lack of empathy and consideration for our situation, we were told they were âjust the messengersâ between us and the landlord. They failed to support us in any of these proceedings, and we were consistently faced with an unhelpful âcomputer says noâ approach by staff. rnrnBearing in mind I have rented for 8 years now, this experience is by far the worst of them all. Absolutely appalled. Do not use.
Comment on agent fees
Quite hefty, but in keeping with other agents in the area.
