I have been renting out the property for a while with my flatmate, and what at first seemed to be like a great opportunity to leave at peace in a greta flat with good landlords, turned out to give us more troubles than expected. We were looking forward so much to leave the property because of the awfulness of the agency,
First of all, the pictures in the contract sent seem to be old pictures, since they do not match fully with the reality itself. Second, they do not find solutions to the problems you have. In my experience we had problems with leaks in the kitchen, problems with the toilet, the ventilation system in the bathroom among other ones. From all these problems I have mentioned, NOBODY came to fix anything. Some details of these are mentioned in the following lines:
- The ventilation in the bathroom was a major problem because the humidity did not leave the room (there were no windows in the room), and therefore, mould was forming up in the tiles. We had explained this in all the flat inspections we had, and NOTHING was done to fix this. Resulting in money taken off from the deposit because the bathroom had mould.
- The toilet was not functioning properly and we had to contact 3rd parties to fix it because Northwood did simply not want to pay for the problems.
- Curtains had from the very beginning staines on them that did obviously not appear in the pictures in the contract because these were old photographs, but were definitely at the beginning of the lease. We had to take them to clean even though my flatmate and I took great care of it.
- The leaks in the kitchen were fixed by neighbours above us, not by nothwood.
- As I seen in other reviews, we were charged £36 pounds for the cleaning of ONE window ON THE OUTSIDE. The rest of the windows were properly cleaned at the end of the tenancy. Not to mention the £88 that were also taken off the deposit because of general cleaning, which was mainly dust in the skirts of the wall. The rest of the flat was deep cleaned.
- During the last weeks of our tenancy, viewings were booked to see the property and we had not been previously told about it. We had not had any idea about them and ended up letting people in without our permission.
On the whole, we do recommend people who get involved with Northwood to:
- Take pictures as soon as they move in the property and after of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING.
- Insist very much if something is not working with them, and if necessary, take the issue further because nothing will be done and will be taken off from your deposit.
- If you can, do not choose Northwood.
Northwood gives awful services.
