I have given this, as they wrongfully call them selves, "Estates Agent" 1 star, if I could give them no stars I would. On viewing the property concerns were raised over the condition of it, there was some serious damp issues, painting needed to be done and windows fixed. The agent there assured us 100% that over the summer the landlord through Parkers would be gutting the property and fixing every little detail including the worn furnishings, damp, security issues and painting.
Having taken them on their word the contract was sign and deposit paid. The worst mistake to date.
Ariving in September to move in we entred the property, a must greated us, Damp, on every single wall connected to the outside. The shower room was black, not due to the fine finished painting that should have happened but due to the mould that had been growing since the viewing. Moving through the house it was apparent that none of the changes had occurred in fact the house had deteriorated. The letting was not SAFE or LEGAL especially when you consider the polystyrene tiles in the bathroom, noted on the housing inspectors SERIOUS HAZARD list.
As you would expact we rang Parkers straight away to enquire about the situation. We were told someone will ring you back in a minute. Half an hour passed we rang again, "someone will be ringing you any minute now" this continued untill at last they agreed to send someone round to inspect the proeprty. A private contractor arrived, as we showed him round (myself being a trainee building surveyor had thoroughly inspected the property and had made a comprehensive list) he was dissapointed at the state of the house and agreed no one should have to live there. He then left to take the list to Parkers which he did. We followed him down to the office to confront the agents. When we arrived we waited 15 minutes to be seen and then were ushered into the back to avoid putting off any other customers. Apologies were made and the agent seem as disgusted as we were with the situation. They put the two clients who were meant to be moving in into temporary accommodation while the situation was dealt with. Days passed with no developments, eventually a damp expert was called out to asses the property, we were promised to receive a full copy of the report, to date we have not. We have dealt with every agent in the office and none have been any use at all. No one knows anything and they certainly do not know ANYTHING of the laws surrounding the situation. They are refusing to address most of the issues raised apart from the damp which apparently can be treated in 4 days, although as a surveyor I know that this is impossible, the time frame is more like 2 working weeks if done thoroughly and correctly. We have now had to introduce solicitors into the situation to try and get the clients out of the contract which the agents are in complete breach of and would do wisely to let them go. If you are looking for any kind of letting DO NOT use Parkers, they are as use full as polystyrene tiles in a house fire. AVOID at ALL costs, this is not just an isolated incident everyone I have met and interviewed since has confirmed they experienced similar if not worse problems. Please avoid these!
