I recently purchased a property from Links estate agent in Exmouth. Glenda was the staff member who showed me round the property and dealt with my purchase.
I have to say that Glenda was great, very communicative, swift with her replies and helpful when getting issues resolved. In total i think we completed in 8 weeks so i was very happy with them as an estate agent.
During the week before completion i went into the property to check things over, which is hard as the vendors still had all their belongings in. However nothing untoward was found and we went away happy.
LATER THAT WEEK HOWEVER!
On competition day we moved into a property that was filthy, with rubbish left everywhere, front garden, back garden, indoors, under the house literally everywhere, unwanted tools, machinery and the cleanliness of the property was so below par that we were disgusted and ultimately disappointed. Thats a hard thing to feel when you've spent over £300k on a property.
So i know this isn't Links fault but I'm happily putting them forward for a share in the blame.
In my opinion Links should have done a spot check on the property before signing it off for completion with my solicitors and handing over the keys us.
They should have stop checks for the vendors to complete before the new owners of the property walk into their brand new home only to be disgusted and disappointed by the disarray of their new home.
There is certainly a case to be put forward so that other new home owners don't get stuck with the issues we now face.
