If you are a student looking for a place to rent in Liverpool, avoid Property Link.
When viewing a property, we were promised a revamp and new furniture before our moving in date. This never happened, and instead we were left dealing with problems such as mouldy sofa's (which were never replaced, simply removed), broken TV aerials in the living room and all three bedrooms, a broken hob meaning there was often a smell of gas in the flat, mouldy washing machine, mouldy bathroom, a fridge freezer that had not been cleaned from the previous tenancy and no desks in the bedrooms. Having contacted the landlords multiple times both at the start of the tenancy and throughout the tenancy, nothing was done to fix these issues and instead we were forced to solve the problems at our own cost.
Rent was paid termly, although it was common to receive an email suggesting that rent had not been paid and we were threatened with late charges. The rental arrangement in the contract was broken almost immediately, with the company claiming that it was no longer possible to pay through their website, and instead payments should be made directly into their bank account (a problem if you want to pay on credit card).
Another issue included court summons being sent to the office as Property Link had not contacted Liverpool City Council with our details explaining that we were students renting the property.
Having cleaned and vacated the property (leaving it in a much better state than when we moved in), we were told aggressively not to contact Property Link until the end of September in relation to the return of our deposits. Now approaching the end of October, and having sent multiple emails, we have still not received our deposits back, on the basis that Property Link are checking if our energy bills (all inclusive as agreed in the contract) are correct as the office had not received any bills during our tenancy - this despite the fact that we hand delivered every bill that was posted directly to our rented property.
The emails we received (albeit rarely) from Property Link were aggressive and often contained grammatical errors.
Property Link are a nightmare for students, and our best advice is to avoid the agency altogether.
Comment on agent fees
Fee's were competitive with other agencies in the area, however the agency sturggled to keep track of payments and often threatened us with charges due to late payments (although this was never the case).
