I rented a flat for 3 years with this agent and found them to be terrible agents. Firstly they were slow in responding to any requests concerning the flat. However what really disappointed me was what occurred after the tenancy. Within a month or so of moving in the toaster and the kettle both broke. As I had my own items I suggested that I simply bin the broken items instead of getting replacements from the landlord which both the landlord and John D Wood agreed to. When I moved out John D Wood denied this and thus claimed these deductions from the deposit along with other items. Negotiation was a non starter which really disappointed me as I had been a tenant for 3 years and been exemplary.
Fortunately I kept details of what John D Wood had allowed me to do so they eventually removed these from the schedule of deductions. For the other items we went to arbitration and kept nearly all of the deposit. This wasn't a simple communication error- I had the same staff member looking after the property for the 3 years as well as the refund of the deposit.
I think they rely on giving tenants a bad deal because they view the landlords as their customers. However this is surely short sighted. Young professionals who rent become home owners in a few years and buy to let landlords in a few more.
