I thought I should leave some feedback on my recent experience in renting a flat in Slough, and in particular about one of Henry Wiltshire estate agent's (Ralphael Roberts), who was guiding and very much helping me throughout the whole process. I hope future prospective tenants and Landlords find it helpful, as (if you have rented before) you will know that there are many completely useless estate agents out there, who charge extortionate fees and provide, at best, mediocre customer service.
So to start from the beginning, when I rung Ralphael to make an appointment to view the flat, I was able to make a booking there and then. Normally, in my previous experience, other estate agents would take your details and promises to call you back, and in fairness, some do, but many I had to chase. Not to mention Ralphael's professionalism and politeness while on the phone. Next, the booking was confirmed immediately via e-mail as well as text message, which I found helpful. On the day of appointment to view the flat, my sat nav took me the wrong way and I was little lost. This made me at least 15 min late for the appointment. Surprisingly, he patiently waited for me and did not seem bothered that I was so late. I found this impressive, as I knew he had busy day ahead.
When we met (in person) he was dressed very smartly, suit and tie, which I think is very rare these days to see an estate agent dressed like that. I thought the estate agent had sent their lawyer by mistake. . I was given plenty of time to look around the flat, all questions were answered and there was also a ready made 'information pack' for me to take home with all the details, fees, next steps etc. This was both informative and helpful. Again, the professionalism and courtesy from Ralphael was a top class.
Of course we took the flat and everything was sorted within days. What I found helpful is that Ralphael stayed in contact with me throughout, via e-mai and phone to make sure everything went ok. For example, he helped chase the referencing company on our behalf to ensure our references were processed quickly. At the same time he was in touch with the Landlord and advise them of which tenants they should accept and how to choose correctly. Lucky for us, we come on top.
Another thing I found very useful, was that contract signing was all completed on-line, which not only saved everyone a lot of time but it was convenient too. Every time we paid e.g. referencing fees, or deposit, he personally called me to confirm that the agency had received it. How often does that happen normally? Rarely, I would say.
So everything went well, until one week before we had to move in. Then, Ralphael called me with bed news and explained there has been mixed up with the Landlord and the flat did not actually come with a parking. This was really a show stopper for me, as I need car for work. Even though it wasn't his fault, I could sense in his voce (when he called me) how sorry and disappointed he was too. Although I really appreciated his symphathy, it did not help me at the time. Normally, I think any other agency would have returned their fees and we would part our ways, but Ralphael personally took upon himself to correct the agency error and find the parking for me. Of course, finding a parking space in a town centre is easier said then done. Yet, somehow and I would expect, after many phone calls, he secured a parking permit for me (at no extra cost to me), which meant I did not need to go through hassle of looking for another apartment. As if that wasn't enough, he even arranged for agency fees to be refunded to me fas he felt that my expectations were not met and for any stress caused by this events. In short, I was really impressed that someone would go above and beyond to help me. He did not need to do that, and that's what made me take this effort to write this feedback. I think after all he has done to help, that was at least I could do.
Although, responsible, honest and decent estate agents are rare, there are still some around. So if you have to rent, buy or sell property, if you could get hold of Ralphael, I guarantee you will have a great experience, and even if there are any hiccups, like in my case, he will take care of that too.
Slough happy tenant and very satisfied customer.
