They have no respect for student rentals at all.
When we first looked at the house it seemed lovely so we were willing to pay a little more than friends who had either rented through Uni or other private agents... IT WAS A BIG MISTAKE.
The hot water tank broke and water was coming through the ceiling, despite ringing multiple times and being promised that people were indeed coming out to fix it no one appeared for weeks... meaning we had little to no hot water for around 3 weeks. This happened twice.
From that we were left with a massive stain on the ceiling, which we kindly reminded them to paint, however months went by no one materialised. Despite ringing over and over again and even being given a date that someone would come out, still no one has appeared, it was 7 MONTHS before it got sorted out. Then when the landlord came to look at the property the letting agent made out like we were not letting them come to paint it.
Whilst it is understandable that painting isn't that big a deal, its frustrating being promised something that never happens.
There were also a few times that we would only be told a few hours before that someone was coming for an inspection, at one point we got a phone call at 9 in the morning to tell us the landlord was coming at mid-day, when we pointed out that this was in breach of our contract, they made out that we were being unreasonable and insisted that we have the visit!
Despite our house being clean we were told that it wasn't up to standards, because there was books on the floor and shoes in the hall, leaving us all feeling rather humiliated and rather patronized, (especially since this was coming from a man old enough to be our father and us 4 young women). It was insisted that we had a follow up inspection, for which our house was immaculate, but we were still told it could have been better, again because the shoes were in the hall.
Foolishly we renewed our contract for a second year (the first year wasn't as bad as the second) we were charged the full amount to renew our contract as it would have been to start new somewhere else, they said that this was because they had to get someone out to inventory the house (despite it being the exact same people living their both years) however no one did, all they did was send us an email version of the contract (which we had to chase them up to do, we paid the renewal fee in Demember but the contract wasn't signed until around October the following year) which we personally don't believe justified the multiple hundreds of pounds we paid them for this.
We are all staying in the area next year but we have learnt our lesson not to rent from Envisage again.
Comment on agent fees
