Myself and my flatmates are students and soon to be tenants with this company. We were due to move out of our current property before the 6th of August, we were promised this as that was our final day here and none of us had anywhere else to go, so basically after the 6th we would be homeless.
After several failed meetings with Bairstow Eves we finally met the guy we would be working with at their Stratford based office on the day the Olympic torch ran through, so as you can guess it was hectic for us to get there and being claustrophobic wasn't helping.
He then made us walk 45 minutes to a property that he originally said he was going to drive us to, which once again was a problem as I suffer from a form of arthritis and one of my flatmates has a back injury. The property was terribly small and wasn't what we had asked for at all! It was too far away from any sort of transport and would take us hours to get into university, one thing he said he had taken into consideration with us.
He then asked us for our honest opinion, so we told him and he looked almost offended because we didn't like the place. I could stand in the 'double bedroom' and touch walls! That is how small it was! You'd be lucky to get a bed in there let alone any other furniture!
Anyway after, he called us up a little bit later to schedule a date to see another property. This date changed several times again because he kept changing it with excuses, the one that took the cake was 'the current tenants of the property don't want people viewing the place after 4pm', which turned out to be a lie after I spoke to one of said tenants, turns out that is just when the housing guy got off work and he didn't want to be working overtime. We liked the place so we took it.
After we took it, it was like a whole different ball game. We started to feel harassed for money, the guy demanding the cash because apparently if we didn't give it to him by the 31st at the very latest the Landlord was going to give the place to someone else. They also then started charging us a lot more money then they originally said they would, money we didn't have, so we had to go to family members and such and leave them penniless too. I come from a poor background, £100 is 2 months worth of shopping for my parents and they expected me to demand £900 from them, I told them where to stick it very sharply. My flatmates had to pay my bit for me because I couldn't raise anymore than £100.
Well we paid them all their money weeks in advance and did all their paperwork, yet we are still waiting to move and we are now being charged £50 a day by our current landlord because we're still in the house that we were supposed to leave on the 6th. We have nowhere else to go and no money because we've used all our savings paying for this new property.
They promised us that we would be out by, at the very latest, the 31st of July, it is now the 8th and we're still waiting on their side. It's been nothing but excuses all this time and even some minor threats from them, such as 'It will take longer if you keep calling us'. We are constantly being told 'I will call you back when I have done whatever', then nobody calls.
We did all our paperwork weeks ago and paid all the money they asked for as well. We're waiting for THEM to get THEIR asses in gear. Everytime we call we're told the same thing, 'We're getting the paperwork in order'. They've been doing that for weeks now! And ever since we told them that they would be paying the charges we get here they've been taking longer! You'd think that would be an incentive to get a move on!
NEVER work with this company! They might seem nice when you go in to see them and when they take you to the places but the second money is down on the table they show their real colours! They are disorganised, rude, impolite and are overall a terrible company! And to boot they don't even have a complaints procedure!
What agent could do to change your mind?
Have a complaints procedure which is CLEAR so if you do have one people can see it, be more organised and stick to your self set deadlines! Don't set a deadline if you don't intend on sticking to it!
