I am not usually one for writing reviews although Martin & Co on Liverpool road have been so terrible that i feel others should know NEVER to rent with this company!
Initially when we were looking they couldn't do enough to help but when they got our deposit from us that was it. Customer service went to zero and were so rude on the phone that they were impossible to deal with, They even hung up on a number of occasions, ignored emails & didnt resond to messages left.
Our first issue (of many) was that the flat was not in the state that was promised. It had not been painted, the blacony door would not open, the cooker had no dials and the overall cleanliness was disgusting. It hadn't been cleaned - the bathrooms were grubby, there was mould growing up the blinds and the kitchen was unlivable and the carpets were all stained. All of which were complianed about on the day we moved in and took a matter of weeks to resolve, and the cleaning of course ended up being done by ourselves as we couldnt live with the state it was in.
We had a number of issues throughout our tennancy (9 months) all of which took months to resolve or werent resolved by the time we moved out. The kept fobbing us off with the line " we have to wait for the landlord to agree to costs" but when a wet room has leaked all over your bedroom waiting for two weeks to get it fixed was ridiculous.
Finally when we came to move out a incompetant man came to do the final checks and was trying to charge for anything and everything. - to move a bedside table back into the bedroom from the hall (literally a few steps) was going to be £20, he also tried to charge for light bulbs until we told him that he hadnt switched them on at the swtich.... all utterly ridiculous especially after the state we had moved in, but all a massive money making scheme.
Getting our deposit back after our tennancy ran out was a nightmare, it went past the 10 working day period which is the legal amount of time given to return a tennants depositperiod (it actually took 3 weeks all in all) , and took all in all about 20 phone calls to get the money refunded and back into our account - they proclaimed that hadnt recieved emails, bank accounts, signatures etc which was all a total lie as i had proof of everything i sent. The deposit was £800 minus the moving out costs (as written about below) so dont rely on that amount of money if you are renting with Martin and Co for your next depoit!!!!!
The moving out charges are massively excessive - THEY DONT TELL YOU ABOUT THESE WHEN YOU MOVE IN!!!! - and was a kick in the teeth after all that had happened
The final straw came - and has lead me to write this - when we recieved a bailiffs letter to our new residency this month (after moving out in April). Martin and co have provided our details for a bill that was not ours, their mistake was that THEY got the wrong apartment block and confused as to who lived there. We were being aggressively chased for money that luckily due to keeping all the final bills and customer numbers we were able to prove was not ours. In the middle of this process we asked Martin and Co to send our tennancy dates to the debt collectors they told us "they dont get involved with these issues and if we wanted a copy it would be £20" again proving their serious lack of incompetence and money grabbing ways as they were fully aware of thier mistake when asking for the £20!
All in all i would NEVER us Martin and Co ever again and would strongly recommend that no one else does either unless you want to be ripped off. Uselss, rude, mindless people!!
What agent could do to change your mind?
1. Been reasonable
2. Been helpful
3. Resolved any query or problem with the Apt within the tennancy or within a reasonalble time frame ie for the leak a day - not 2 weeks
4. Been competent in their procedures when passing details on to third parites
