We rented from Barrie Alderton for 6 months and it was awful.
-The first mistake was that the written contact said 12 months when we had verbally agreed to 6.
-the house wasn't clean when we moved in, the bathroom was particularly mouldy- the shower curtain was stuck to the bath with mould.
- the house had a number of issues, some of which were sorted, some weren't, but generally I had to email and ring them endlessly to get anything done.
- in the end I threatened to go to environmental health which prompted them to send a senior member of staff around to look at the house and make lots of promises that where never acted upon.
- various handy man came and went no work was done.
- at one point they sent a handyman around to paint black Bitumen paint in the corners of most of the rooms (not actually where the mould was) they didn't tell us that was what they were doing so when me and my three-year-old got home we had quite a shock. My daughter found this distressing.
- towards the end of our 6 months' tenancy, before we had handed in our notice they rang me to ask if a family could look around the house – they had put it on right move and we didn't even know! I assumed the landlord had given us notice but they had not told us. The Landlord was away so we didn't know if our tenancy was coming to an end for over two weeks. I spoke to the manager who was apologetic and said he would be doing everything he could to find out what was happening but we never heard back and I had to ring and email to get the issue resolved.
-When we left we didn't hear about our deposit for three weeks so again I started chasing. Eventually we got part of the deposit back but they tried to keep some money to re decorate over the black paint.
-They provided a receipt for a post tenancy clean that was dated from before we had even moved into the house.
We disputed this and I sent screen shots of emails I had sent over the six months with my various complaints and saved it as a PDF, and said we wouldn't pay for any work without dated, detailed receipts, they gave us our full deposit back. After I sent the final email with the PDF attached I had to email twice just to get an acknowledgement of the email let alone an answer to the question of our outstanding deposit.
