Worst letting agency in London.
Having lived in London for 4 years, I'm accustomed to the processes, procedures and policies of London letting agencies. Yet Laursitons' Wimbledon Office went out of their way to demonstrate their incompetency.
The whole process from start to finish was made so difficult and upon leaving the flat getting the deposit back was a process that left me in tears.
- Jan (2017) Having paid rent and the additional fees involved the move in date was pushed back leaving me homeless for a week.
- Upon moving in the flat was dirty, let alone professionally cleaned. Used nappy under my bed, dusty, broken smoke alarm, bin full of the previous tenants things , half used products in the cupboards, pill/tablet packets in the bathroom etc.
- Washing machine broke mid-way through tenancy , took ages for someone to actually come and look and my housemate and I were left using the nearest laundrette for a month. The dodgy washing machine was never truly fixed or replaced, instead the repair man had stained my bath towels and left the machine working on one setting, which took 5 hours to wash.
- Moving out was probably the worst experience, the landlord charges were unjustified. Cleaning fees were put forward although the inventory stated areas of the flat were cleaner, given the state of the flat upon moving in.
- In line with an agreement with the letting agency I booked a gardener to clean the garden at a much cheaper rate (almost half the price!) after the landlord was going to charge an excessive amount, because a subsection of the inventory stated the JUST the shrubs were overgrown. I was then bluntly advised by the agency that took over the flat that it was illegal to go onto the property and that Lauristons' did not have the authority to suggest so or suggest contacting them. Leaving me with a gardener cancellation fee and a very uncomfortable conversation with another agency.
- This back a forth with Lauristons took over a month and we finally agreed to pay part of the charges (not cleaning and some of the proposed Garden) not because I believed they were justified, but I was exasperated dealing with the agents. It wasn't convenient for them to talk over the phone, yet email responses were painfully slow and often established nothing. Even when coming to an agreement it took over 2 weeks to receive the deposit back and any emails asking for an update were ignored.
Across the many Lauristons' staff that managed the account with us only one was remotely helpful (Blair) the others were unprofessional, inefficient and just rude to deal with. No apology was ever received for delayed move in date, the state of the flat, the miscommunication with the deposit, the delay in receiving the deposit, form any representative of Lauristons. I was too scared to write a review until I received my deposit due to the low regard and lack of integrity I associate with the agency.
Comment on agent fees
Higher than average
Be aware of the professional clean charge before you sign your contract
Moving in and check out fees are the highest I've ever paid, even since moving out of the flat.
£60 charge to provide a reference to a new letting agency.
