Horrendous experience renting with Martin & Co - if I could rate 0 I would.
They spent weeks with all of our referencing information only to the rush it all through at the very last minute, pestering employers to reply asap even though they had had weeks to do so.
I was moving up from Guildford, and was ringing and ringing to find out when I can get the keys from the office. After a multitude of times, starting a week prior to moving in, I was finally able to get only the day before I was moving in that keys wouldn't be available until 5pm that day so I would have had to be sat with my car with ALL my belongings all day. Explaining all this they finally relented to giving my keys earlier in the day, to the disgruntlement of the staff.
Upon moving in we were told the incorrect parking space allocated to our flat, so when we arrived we did not have anywhere to park as the "allocated" space was taken.
When we finally got into the flat it was dirty, the bins were full, one of the doors was sellotaped shut to attempt (and failed) to keep the draught out, and finally one of the light switches if used, tripped the bathroom light on and it wouldn't turn back off. Martin and Co were emailed and called on our move in date, however no one ever turned up to address the light switch issue so we just ended up not using this particular light for our entire tenancy.
After this, we were told that our landlord wanted to sell the property so we could not renew our tenancy, and were issued with two eviction notices with the wrong dates on - essentially trying to get us to move out before our tenancy was up.
Upon moving out, we spotlessly cleaned our apartment, and were charged ridiculous cleaning fees to be taken from our deposit even though it was exceptionally clean when we left (and it was disgusting when we arrived).
To top it all off they charge a "check out fee" which, after being forced to move out, is a bit of a cheek. Apparently this is in the contract, and after looking it is slotted in in the fine print amongst a variety of other costs that we may incur.
Essentially these are unprofessional, rude, horrendous people to rent with and if you can I would do yourself a favour and AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Comment on agent fees
Fees are fairly high, but a check out fee is ridiculous.
