Chase Buchanan would appear to be a very efficient agent but what if things go terribly wrong?
I rented a cottage in Richmond from Chase Buchanan a few months a go.
On the day of check in I met with both my landlord and the estate agent.
Whilst the landlord was checking the carbon monoxide alarm I asked to open the doors leading to the garden which didn't have a key in the lock at the time.
I pushed on them to look outside and they opened up at which point my landlord casually commented that they were a security risk.
Having just moved in I didn't want to cause issue so didn't raise the security again.
A week later I got broken in to whilst in the house asleep.
The burglar entered the property from the same doors.
We have a dog and I was up watching TV but heard nothing because no real force was used to break in and no locks were broken.
Our car was stolen along with irreplaceable jewellery that wasn't insured, a value of over ninety thousand pounds.
The consequences have been devastating to me financially.
I no longer felt safe in the house and the landlord refused to put an alarm system in but suggested that he would pay for half the cost of security gates.
He kept on referring to the inventory report that I had agreed to even though he knew that those doors were not secure.
Eventually I decided I could no longer live in the cottage and asked if I could leave once they found a replacement tenant.
I felt this was the best decision for me and also the Landlord as the break in had financially crippled me and I felt the landlord would appreciate me ending the tenancy early to avoid possible arrears in rent.
I strongly feel very let down by both my landlord and chase buchanan.
Both landlord and agent were aware that the security on the cottage was at risk before I got broken in to, the landlord refered to this in front of the agent from Chase Buchanan and for this reason
I don't think this situation has been handled with any consideration, sensitivity or integrity.
I sent emails to both my landlord and estate agent about my break in however I had no communication with Chase Buchanan until I decided to end the tenancy.
The morning that we woke up and realised someone had broken in I called the landlord to which he said how sorry he was but off topic, did I sign the inventory report?
I feel the landlord was only looking out for himself.
I told the manager at Chase Buchanan exactly what had happened and why I had to end my tenancy but she assured me I still had to pay all the penalties and would not put the property back on the market until I agreed to pay all the penalties.
all things considered, I feel completely let down by my landlord and Chase Buchanan as I feel this could have been dealt with in a more considerate way.
I don't think that I should have been held solely responsible for all the penalties incurred
Be careful what you sign because in the event of a problem Chase Buchanan will not be there for you.

The day I checked in Before I got the keys to the garden door and whilst the landlord and Renee from Chase Buchanan were in the kitchen I pushed on the doors which were locked with all the bolts and they sprung open. At this point the landlord said casually this was a bit of a security risk" at which point both agent and myself looked at each other surprisingly. For this reason I believed that you as a reputable agent should have taken more control in the matter rather than accepting the passive aggressive response from the landlord who came over to try and change the locks on the property himself and made the bathroom window even less secure. This went on for weeks at which point I became stressed and anxious in the property. I have the pictures of the window lock and a video to demonstrate how easy it was to pull open that door. I believe your company should have taken a different approach given these circumstances.
