Unprofessional, disgraceful and appalling service from Macintyres. Big on promises, EXTREMELY POOR on delivery. This included:
- pressuring me to use a conveyancer even after I had repeatedly told them I would choose my own conveyancer (because they get a lump sum from my using their recommended one)
- making promises about telling me about viewings (and then not telling me about TWO-THIRDS of the viewings that took place!!!)
- refusing to meet with me to discuss my concerns about their mis-management of the selling of my property
- failure to listen to and take account of instructions.
- Kate Jeffrey sharing the emails I sent to them with third parties (thus causing me enormous personal and financial problems) and breaching my legal rights to data protection. Telling me she had been told to share my emails by someone else in her team and then changing the story later (when challenged by the Property Ombudsman) saying it was 'an error'.
Despite all this, they failed to sell my property - ie the task they were actually assigned.
I complained to the Property Ombudsman who found several faults in Macintyres handling of the sale of my property and awarded me hundreds of pounds in damages (the maximum they award for such claims). The Property Ombudsman cannot rule on the data protection breach but have advised I take this up with the Information Commissioner.
My advice to vendors, and what I wish I had been told at the outset, is to not use Macintyres. There are other agents out there who are reputable and cheaper. I ended my contract with Macintyres after their shocking behaviour and used another Brackley agent who sold my house quickly and with the minimum of fuss. If you are forced to use Macintyres, I strongly suggest that you put everything in writing (eg, your instructions, what you have been verbally promised etc) and keep full records of all your dealings with them.
Remember, someone wearing a suit and making big promises does not mean they are a professional - it just means they own a suit and can make promises to get your business.
Comment on agent fees
Much higher than their competitors in the area.
Given they did not achieve a sell, I did not have to pay their fee's but it wasted a huge amount of time, during which their behaviour caused me a lot of stress.
