The first meeting with Sandra to value our house and promote their service was fine, and the fact that JN have a team member dealing with progressions sealed the deal for us, as this meant there was someone else to do all the chasing and harrying of buyers/solicitors/brokers etc. How wrong could we be?
After the first open house we had a buyer - or so we thought. She then disappeared and JN were always unable to contact her - at the time I accepted that version of events, and subsequently a 2nd buyer was found, but that's where all the issues and delays happened. After continued delays, I threatened to pull out and a 3rd potential buyer was produced and made an offer that we initially rejected, but then went mysteriously quiet, despite apparently going off to consult his broker. I guess we'll never know if buyers #1 & #3 actually existed and we were very unlucky, or were just created to keep us hanging on with JN rather than moving to a more proactive & credible estate agent.
Communication was the worst thing about JN, including only getting 30 minutes notice of a survey cancellation having arranged my day around that and subsequently finding out that the sale had collapsed - not through JN but from the agent dealing with the house that we were buying! It took JN a couple of hours to confirm what we already knew.
When trying to talk with JN, I was either be told that the person dealing is out of the office (apparently they don't have centralised updates that anyone can read), was insulted by one of their 'junior' staff, given different versions of updates to those given to my wife (don't they think couples talk to each other?), hung up on or just ignored. Even after being assured that "Anyone would be able to help" during a period of annual leave, we were still fobbed off when calling in as "Peter was out of the office" and this is one of my main gripes with JN and the way they work. If you want to know what's going on with your house sale (I imagine a purchase through them might be just as bad), you will always have to wait for someone to return to the office - or you could just stop a random stranger in the street and ask them - they are as likely to know. This was true both when the sale was with the Sales team or with Tamsin, the progressor.
As selling a house is one of the more stressful things you can do, don't make it worse for yourself by using JN. They might be a little cheaper than other agents - in fact we ended up selling through Barnard Marcus - and the extra few hundred pounds was well worth it. Do yourselves a massive favour and don't even ask JN around to value/pitch, you'll end up doing half of the work and " assuming they can arrange the sale" you'll still be paying them for the privilege.
Comment on agent fees
Would have been slightly cheaper than others had they managed to arrange the sale
