We dealt with many people at the letting agent, all very friendly, personable and helpful. Of course the real test is whether their manner remains the same once you've entered into a contract and parted with your money. It's still early doors, but I'm pleased to say that the customer service has been great still, and the staff have remained very approachable. The only downside is that they didn't have a lot of info about the property so we've been trying to work out where things are/ how everything works etc. This seems to be the way with a lot of letting agents really, I was just hoping they'd be different as they'd been far more friendly and efficient than other letting agents I've dealt with in the past.
Comment on agent fees
The fees are incredibly high for the amount of admin required. I don't think it's fair to charge the tenant so much when their services are enacted by the landlord not the tenant. Advertising is unecessary, most people search for flats in a certain area with certain specifications (using rightmove or equivalent) and so it's not as if you're drawn in by the agent and then choose the property. The tenancy agreements are all online and so there's not even any real paperwork. I just think for the work involved and the cost of materials £550 is a bit excessive. If they do need to remain then I beliieve they should be shared between landlord and tenant. I realise that the fees are in place for all agents across the UK and so I'm hoping at some point the government will place restrictions to these large admin costs, until then - this is the world we live in.
