I rented a student property from Indigo Lettings in Brighton. The property was disgusting, the kitchen was tiny, not even big enough for one person, the living room was in a greenhouse attachment and too hot to sit in the summer, too cold in winter. The roof of the living room leaked, my bedroom was absolutely minuscule, yet the rent they expected for this disgusting house was £507 per month, not even including bills. The house was in a terrible location, atop a GIANT hill, miles from anywhere, with only 1 bus service heading there. Other issues included, the hot water in the shower would sporadically turn on and off, the taps in the kitchen were too hard to turn off, and the mattress of my bed was completely broken, you sank into the middle of it every time you lay in it. The bathroom ceiling was covered in mould too, and the bathroom was so small you could barely close the door behind you.

The final straw for me was, when moving out they added charges to keep from my deposit that weren't even real. They charged me £20 for not returning the keys, and when I emailed them they said that they didn't see the keys therefore couldn't return my deposit. They also tried to charge me for a missing bedroom bin, there was no bin in the room when I moved in, which I'm sure they are fully aware of. I'm a student, I cannot afford to be ripped off by terrible people who simply do not care.
Comment on agent fees
The fees were far too high, they are criminals.

As a tenant, this is by far the worst letting agent I have ever used. Took months to fix anything and were generally useless at doing anything a property management company is supposed to do (usually claiming staff shortages as the reason), yet if WE ...

I was an international student in University of Sussex during 2016-2017. We were shocked by incredibly bad service standards, unfairness and complete absence of human empathy. Our house had leaks in corridor, holes on the floor and constant reminder that not cleaning dust is breach of our contract. We have spent half of winter without any hot water or heating because maintenance guy was on holiday. Overall, this agency stopped showing any care for us as soon as contracts were signed and deposits ...
