I called Dexters to discuss a two bedroom next door to the property I already rent on Shacklewell Lane. I currently reside in a one bed that I shared with my partner and now as we are divorcing i felt I needed a change in scenery. This two bed Dexters offered me similar surrounding area with the option of having a flatmate (my reason for moving) and again a change in scenery. I do not need to leave my already happy and well decorated one bed.
The Estate agent first and foremost asked my name, I informed him I had never heard of Dexters after 17 years of renting in London. He asked my second name, went silent and came back saying "you clearly do know Dexters, you registered with us two years ago" then continued to ask "what do you do"
Now, and I consider myself somewhat successful earning a very decent salary in the high high bracket, (on contract) and other freelance clients on the side I was made to feel like I was renting a property for the first time and informed I needed to provide a list of Information. (This is all before a viewing)
Then as the conversation or should I say "interrogation" progressed I was informed that the landlord is looking for someone to make it "their home" (I've never thought of moving into a flat to make it anything less) as he lives abroad with a small child (I believe he said) and looking for someone for a 24 month contract. Never in my whole adult life have I ever heard a landlord ask for a 24 month contract. Call it greed, call it fear, call it laziness on that agents part, who knows?? No doubt a tactic as he didn't feel I was the right candidate (on a phone call) :-/
I would have been more than happy to rent for a lengthy period as I'm not going anywhere and I've been in the building I'm in back and forth for 5 years, but with barriers thrown up instantly, it makes you wonder who these "Landlords" allow to manage their property?
When you have a 36 year old, good earner, doesn't need to leave their already rented property, no children, no pets, can afford the property alone, as a pontential tenant! It's leaves me wondering "who is a good tenant to Dexters?" If only we could deal with our landlords directly like I do now and have a great relationship with it would make renting in London much easier.
Sadly a phone call with Dexters Estate Agent is enough to turn anyone off and if they are not interested in my money, it will go to a more deserving "home".
Thanks Agent 00? Broadway Market Branch, your an Estate Agent not Law Enforment.
Epic Fail.....

Comment on agent fees
I wouldn't pay this Agent fees. You pay fees to r a level of service, that sadly this agenet wouldn't warrant.

Many thanks for your generic email (with name change) it would firstly help as customer service Manager to spell the name of the person correctly. Offering a sense to myself that this report matters somewhat to Dexters.
I am unsure what you could do to change the above? as it will not result In me securing the property, so I will offer a word of advice to Dexters. Being personable to those you may deem "not right" is judging and offensive. Estate Agents are a dying breed and for the sake of longevity. I'd say change and become more personable. Estate agents are trained to be ruthless machines and it's U.G.L.Y.
I wish Dexters every success but I will not pay fees to a company that has no morals apart from making money. £££&£
Warmest Regards
