Have had ongoing problems with Southside for the past year. The main problem involved our plumbing, our shower and toilet had repeated problems. We frequently had a blocked toilet and toilet waste coming up through the shower. Plumbers who came out told us that Southside and the landlord were advised not to change the room into a bathroom originally and that this problem was inevitable. We were not told about this before we moved in and a previous tenant told us that he had experienced the same problem the year before. We were promised that the work to solve the problem would be done at Christmas whilst we were out of Edinburgh, yet this was never achieved. We consulted Citizens Advice who helped us write a letter to Southside explicitly asking for rent reduction or compensation due to the massive inconvenience which they acknowledged but never acted upon, despite us frequently prompting them. This has been a really stressful year for the three of us who lived there and we have had anxiety-related health problems as a result, of which Southside are aware. We really feel let down and would not recommend Southside to anyone as we wouldn't want anyone else to experience the level of anxiety and stress we have.
Comment on agent fees
Not good value for money. We have compared with other students in Edinburgh who have received flats with superior facilities and living conditions, plus better customer service than what we experienced, for less money. We are currently being charged exit fees for which we are seeking advice from LPS letting service.
