When we viewed the property, Harbinder Shergill told us that the property will be professionally cleaned and repainted - as the walls and wallpaper especially were in a bad condition. (I have viewed houses with him every year and that is the same thing he says at every property as it is standard practice). However, when we moved in, there was no work done on the walls at all. The carpet in the upstairs bedroom had dust marks where furniture used to sit. It was clear that not a penny was spent to bring the place back to glory. When we complaint about this, we got given excuses that there was not enough time for them to do the work as we moved in too quickly (when the contract started and when we told them we wanted to move in from the beginning). Instead we had to talk to the landlady directly (which the agency should do for us) who was amazing about the whole situation and arranged someone to come over and at least repaint the living room to a nice standard. We also got a new oven, living room carpet and her mom and herself also fixed a number of issues with bedroom doors (which would shut closed automatically). However, nothing was done by the agency. They also breached the lease by taking in people inside our home to view the property without notice, even though we let them know of this every time. They were even complaining that I was paying my rent when my student loan comes in (which I told them I would do before we signed the contract) but they wanted the rent to be paid on the 1st of every month regardless of our agreement. When the security deposit finally came back, 3 of my housemates (out of 4 including myself) were undercharged for rent based on their security deposit break down (edited in pen with misspelled names, not all of us received a letter to begin with). After questioning Stacy Barlow about whether I was overcharged for cleaning charges and requesting receipts to clarify the situation (I do not mind paying if they actually spent the money and the house was not indeed cleaned properly by the last tenant), she started to ignore me for 3 weeks. I forwarded the case to the manager Ken and he gave me the same story ignoring everything I have said.
And on and on it goes, there is no hope for this company. It is utterly displeasing dealing with them. Please contact the landlady/landlord directly to work with them as the agency I have dealt with was utterly useless.
Comment on agent fees
Awful! The agency fees I paid everywhere else didn't exceed £80. But these guys charge £180! What nonsense.
