We purchased a house through Romans and found them very good overall. Our sales negotiator was particularly helpful. He was prompt and punctual and always returned calls quickly if a message was left. Since we were wanting to relocate to Farnborough and we didn't live in the vicinity, we usually couldn't do viewings until the evening or on weekends and they were able to fit us in at any time to suit us. We liked that they were available out of hours. We met a couple of different sales negotiators when viewing different properties and they were polite, courteous, professional, warm and friendly. We found the sales negotiators an asset to the Romans team.
We did find the after sales process a bit inconsistent at times so we would see this as an area for improvement and the only thing which let them down. It isn't a complaint as we did get a good service overall but rather a suggestion for fine tuning! Considering we were first time buyers trying to beat the stamp duty exemption in March '12 we were keen for all parties in the chain to keep the ball moving. We felt that the after sales could have provided better informed communication and be more proactive and visible. For instance, our after sales was often not available nor answered the phone and wouldn't return calls until much later which sometimes posed a problem if we needed a response urgently. Or if contact was via email communication, we received only a reply to one part of our query leaving the remaining unanswered. As first time buyers we really didn't have a clue what things meant or what was going on and sometimes we called or emailed the after sales with a query only to find on occasion that we didn't really get a straight answer or got a confusing one. We know that our seller had enlisted Romans for the sale of their house but during the after sales process and with us being first time buyers needing a bit of extra explanation we did feel that perhaps a better supportive balance could be provided.
Many agencies offer other services such as an IFA and solicitor and whilst Romans did offer this to us they didn't press it further when we declined. This was purely for reasons that we had a friend who is an IFA and another a solicitor who provided their work for free / at mates rates. We did find other agents that we viewed properties through a bit pushier with these services.
We viewed many properties through other agents and found only about 2 agencies in Farnborough were really good and professional by keeping us informed of any new properties on the market etc and remaining on our radar throughout. Romans was one of these and we'd definitely recommend them and consider using them for selling our house in the future. There was one agency we registered with who repeatedly forgot who were were each time we called and didn't seem to care to book us in for viewings or remain in contact - we wondered how they ever sold a property?! Romans were one of the high performing agencies we dealt with and on the ball!
