Would have preferred to give 'no stars' but was unable to.
I initially engaged an estate agent to sell my property and was advised by the development manager to use Retirement Homesearch as well. This I did but they were an absolute waste of time - after signing their terms and agreement I received no contact whatsoever from them to indicate there had been any interest in my property. The property was sold through the first agent but Retirement Homesearch are now claiming they introduced the buyer to the property and so are entitled to their fee of £2100. They have already been paid over £2000 as their contingency and transfer fee relating to the lease! My buyer discovered the property by searching online himself (finding it on RightMove with PurpleBricks) & claims he never made an appointment with RH to view the property but just turned up and the development manager let him in to view. It seems the development manager is employed by First Port but also acts for Retirement Homesearch - but my buyer did not know that. I asked for their evidence of their involvement and was sent a copy of a spreadsheet which shows a couple of discrepancies, viewings relating to a different property. Most of which could have been amended to suit their argument. All they are concerned about is getting as much money from clients as possible for doing little or no work. The people they deal with are usually elderly and vulnerable and Retirement Homesearch use this to exploit them.
How are they allowed to keep operating? Often changing their company name and dividing the main company into different sections - Peverel, First Port, Estates & Management, Retirement Homesearch etc - all these are the same company with the same aim - to rob people!!
They are now threatening court proceedings if I do not pay them their fee and whilst I do not agree with their claim I fear because they are 'bigger and cleverer' than me I could end up paying out a lot more than £2000.
They very cleverly word their terms and agreement so that they cannot lose out - my advise is Keep Clear of them and any other company relating to Peverel.
Comment on agent fees
Normally average fees I suppose but trying to claim when they haven't actually done anything is just not on!
