I am a first time buyer and have been viewing flats for the past 2 months. Naturally, I have been dealing with a lot of sales agents and most of them have happily arranged multiple and repeat viewings. Until I had the misfortune of meeting Simon at Lifestyle Property in Gallions Reach.
I had previously scheduled an appointment with the agency which I could not do because of an impromptu urgency, albeit I notified them prior to the viewing. I was traveling in and out of London since then and could not really manage to do any property viewing with them. I may have enquired about properties (honestly I don't think I did many times but he rather harshly says hell lot of times. I wish God gave Simon a smiling face at least!), but never really booked and cancelled appointments.
But this seemed to have annoyed them so much (I am guessing but not sure yet!) that when I scheduled an appointment finally on a bright Saturday morning, he met me at his office with zero greetings (no good morning, no shaking hands). That was the first ever sign of unprofessionalism I saw in my 2-month long property search. I am ignoring the fact that he was dressed surely more appropriately for jogging (track pants and sneakers) rather than showing flats with absolutely zero smile on his face.
Next, as we entered the property for viewing I asked which direction is the balcony facing and his three word reply was I don't know!. He was not even eager to help me figure out when he saw I was struggling with my mobile compass; he stood there lame and silent. Is this how sales agent do their jobs? I have not had this experience with any other agent. Ever.
Finally, he stood there talking to the tenants without showing a modicum of interest to show around the flat or giving details. More importantly they are not very adept at putting the floor size in their online listings, so I believe it helps (and in fact should qualify as part of their job) to show around and explain what all is there in the flat. At least every single sales agent I have met has done so. I can't describe how uninterested Simon was and for no apparent reason! May be I cancelled just one viewing with them that's why? May be I asked him questions like how old the flat is, which direction is the balcony facing? Or may be he is just plain and simple grumpy? Whatever it is, I positively believe he is extremely unprofessional in his job and does not even have the basic courtesy of talking nicely or greeting people, which is so very frustrating to come from a sales agent! And be ready to face consequences of their monopolistic behaviour in the Gallions reach, Basin approach area if you ask them questions or cancel just one appointment.

We have records that show this applicant cancelled not one but three viewing appointments but this had absolutely no impact on the way he treated. Simon was not wearing jogging pants but he was wearing trainers however this was because he is receiving ongoing medical treatment for a serious ankle injury. And as for the assertion that there were zero greetings", the fact was that as he opened the office door to announce his arrival, Simon stood up to say hello" whereupon he immediately turned his back and walked out of the office towards the apartment he was there to view. These corrections are made for the sake of completeness however they are relatively minor points in the context of what the reviewer claims happened at the appointment.
The vendor has confirmed to us in writing:
in no way was Simon impolite to the viewer who actually snapped when he didn't get an immediate answer to which direction the balcony was facing. He was then rude and loud in my house. I tried to calm things down by talking to Simon and then offering to answer any of his questions myself. Obviously, it didn't work. The guy was hot headed, All he had to do was stay calm and ask the questions politely which he clearly couldn't do"
There are always two sides to an issue however when there is independent evidence that corroborates one version of events in comparison with the other, it surely calls into question the motivation behind the original review.
