Stirling Ackroyd (Hackney and Clapton Branch) provided a very poor service for their price. If you're debating using this agent or doing it yourself and using a site like sellmyhome.co.uk, my experience would suggest you could save yourself a considerable amount of money and do the same amount of work.
In short, I signed on with one of Stirling's agents who I felt would do a good job, and appeared trustworthy. I did my homework, checking reviews online and feedback regarding the agent that I was being assigned.
Unfortunately, as soon as I signed up, I was immediately switched without consultation, to another member of the team, who would be best described as a caricature of a dodgy salesman. Callbacks were promised and never materialised, communication was curt and often downright rude, and I even ended up having to handle Stirling's show-arounds with prospective buyers myself.
As we got closer to exchange date, it became clear that not only myself, but everyone involved in the chain was getting either no response or strangely aggressive emails from Stirling Ackroyd in response to any query.
I ended up having to take on communication with my buyer to stop him from pulling out and the chain collapsing. My buyer seemed pretty relieved I had sought him out, as he also seemed to be having no luck getting timely information out of Stirling Ackroyd. He ultimately requested we not communicate via the estate agent for the remainder of the sale period.
The original estate agent I signed with has since left and the management weren't interested in making any attempt to compensate me for the stress and the work I had to put in to make the sale happen. Therefore I wouldn't assume this isn't an isolated incident, as that kind of service seems to be something Stirling support from the top down. I genuinely wouldn't wish this added level of stress upon anyone else, house moving is bad enough even with the best people involved. If you still would prefer to use an agent, Brickworks London, who were buying off, were nothing but professional at every point of the transaction, placing in stark relief the abysmal level of service we received from Stirling Ackroyd.
Comment on agent fees
Very overpriced
