Thanks for the review but in the interest of fairness we feel we should offer a bit more context. Your tenancy was due to end at the end of June, you requested a further 2 month extension as you were buying a house. We granted this extension no problem. When you moved out the landlord wanted to make certain deductions, namely the replacement of blinds, we mediated between parties while you disagreed about the cost to replace these blinds. As your tenancy end date was originally set to end at the end of June your deposit was automatically unprotected from that date which meant it was protected for the following three months. The discussions between yourself and the landlord took 6 weeks before being referred to the deposit resolution service. Unfortunately the 6 week delay meant the deposit protection period had elapsed and we felt that it would be in no ones best interest to either re-protect the deposit, wait for the relevant minimum period usually 5 weeks and dispute or to pursue through a small claims court. This is when we advised the landlord to return the deposit in full and replace the blinds themselves. We do however concede that the member of staff that was responsible for managing the mediation was far from competent and may have caused unnecessary, frustration. We also take all feedback seriously and as a result of this have changed deposit providers to one where the deposit is never unprotected automatically.
