I was a tenant of Rapid Survey for almost 8 years. Recently moved into my own house. The live/work unit was exceptionally spacious and allowed me, an artist, to have creative space to work from home. With a huge skylight and wooden floor it was very inspiring, and crystallised my views on live/work and open plan living. The rent per square foot I considered a little low, but as the unit was single glazed, and could be chilly in the winter sometimes if you didn't put the heating on all the time, it didn't feel unfair to put the heating on a bit higher and longer. It's up to you in the end, as an adult, to manage your own personal heat requirements and bills. It's brilliant that Jeff and Monica Lowe keep these larger live/work units as they are, affordable larger spaces for people who need space, but may be living alone or as a couple, and require big open space rather than double glazing. I really appreciated the freedom of being able to paint the walls how I liked and put wall mounted shelves and artworks up everywhere, without fear of being 'fined' when I moved out for damaging plasterwork, like most landlords. Their team of handy men always responded quickly to any problems (only one or two in eight years!). We were never overly disturbed, or checked up on, by anyone from Rapid Survey, and if access was needed, permission was always sought at least 24 hours before.
