During the viewing of an app we informed Mehdi that one of us was not employed and the other had just started a new role. We were informed we would need a Guarontor. I informed Mehdi that my brother could provide one. I was asked if he was a homeowner to which I replied no. I was then informed that he 'must instead earn 2.5 times the annual rent' to which I replied he does. We applied for the property, paid our holding deposit and gave all information required. We had several annoying phone calls with the reference company as they stated twice they could not contact our landlord. Each time I rang the land lord and immediately made contact, to which I was informed that they were yet to receive a request! We wasted a whole week from Monday to Friday helping to reference company do their job (which we as the tenants would be paying for)!
On Friday we finally received an email to state that all reference (including the Guarontor) were approved and informing us of the few thousand we must then pay along with proof of addresses for both us and the Guarontor. I asked what type of proof for the Guarontor and I was informed I needed the 'deed' or mortgage agreement. I informed Mehdi immediately that he was aware my Guarontor was not a homeowner. Unfortunately Mehdi did not admit to any mistake and instead we received our deposit back after a huge waste of time and effort. What the biggest issue was that we were directed to the information on the website which actually states we didn't even require a Guarontor based on our combined earnings. When questioned on this we were ignored. To ask us to handover a substantial sum of money before the full process has been completed is a disgrace. If the Guarontor being a homeowner was detrimental to the terms it should have been outlined clearly from the beginning. We were very disappointed as we liked the house a lot and provided all financial and reference checking. We initially thought of Mehdi as trustworthy and likeable but after our experience we feel we were misled and misinformed.
