The staff at Martin and Co were lovely and delightful when we were flat hunting as they were clearly eager to get our money, however, everything changed the second we signed the final bit of paperwork. Everything after that has just been a succession of lies, patronising employees, refusal to fix anything, and administrative issues. My flatmate had a major leak in her ceiling that destroyed some of her electrical property (including but not limited to her laptop) and we had to threaten to sue the agency to get them to fix it a year after it had been reported. When we moved in, the bathtub was covered in mold, most of which we got off with a bit of bleach and scrubbing, proving that they lied about deep cleaning the flat before we arrived. The bathroom wall eventually started growing mushrooms depsite our constant bleaching, and it took them two months to finally get the environmental services over. We had to pester them to have gas and electrical checks carried out. They also lied about when we needed to move in, as they threatened to put the flat back on the market if we didn't start the lease on the date they wanted, only to tell us they were unable to do the inventory themselves because our move in date was too short notice. Moreover, we kept getting late rent payment notices because they didn't bother to change the date at which we were meant to send the rent, which we agreed on in the office and signed a piece of paper about. They kept £135 in deposit money, supposedly for another deep clean even though we left the flat cleaner than we'd found it. Any little thing that needed changing would just lead to endless pestering to get it done. Finally, they still managed to bother us after we've moved out for taking weeks to send a landlord reference, lying about supposed fees for said reference (I had to read all 85 pages of the contract to make sure there weren't any), and repeatedly lying about having sent the landlord reference. I don't know if this behaviour is due to the fact that we're students, foreigners, or if they treat everyone like that. In any case, do yourself a favour and avoid them at all costs.
