Ashley Charles has from the start treated us like intruders in the house we are renting. Not for one minute have we felt at home due to stringent controls on the way we use the house: for example every 3 months a representative comes to the house to see if the house is clean and in order. It is one thing to see if we are not damaging the property but it is another to notify us that we have clothes on the floor and this should be picked up. Do they think they are our parents?
On the other hand when we need them to get a problem sorted it takes them literally MONTHS to fix them. Another issue is the fact that they try to get as much money as possible from the tenants: when we paid our deposit they tried to charge us banking fees for sending THEM the money! What is more we were both using the same bank, so not charges apply!
On the whole we have been thouroughly dissapointed with this letting agency and would strongly recommend not using them.

Bad all round not going into detail. Good luck getting any deposit back. And yes am real real ex Ashley Charles tennant. I would go with Elite Property Management who are much better, previous flat was with them and they were a dream compared to Ashley Charles. Aug 20, 2009

I have no Idea who these people are. Are they in fact tenants ?? as they hide behind being Anonymous. We have the lowest admin fees in the area. Some agents charge 10 days rent + reference fees. Interestingly enough in the 11 years I have been an agent it is always the bad tenants that come unstuck and feel aggrieved. We never hide anything from tenants our T+C's are published on our website. Where we manage a property Both parties at the beginning of the tenancy agree to sign up to the principle that the fair way of deciding issues bought up re Inventories, Check In and Check Out is to have a 3rd party i.e. an Inventory Clerk compile the reports. The landlord pays for the check in and the tenant pays for the check out thus the Inventory Company is representing both parties and is impartial in their findings.
Both parties agree to go with their decisions When notice to quit is given by a tenant and a check out is booked Ashley Charles sends you a four page letter reminding you of some of your responsibilities. Why ??? because nothing pleases us more to receive a chq out report that says give the tenant back their deposit , the property is clean and no damage has been done.
We are obliged to get quotes for the work that needs to be done. Our legal obligation is that these quotes should justify the amount, which the Landlord is claiming. The check in and check out reports will justify that the work was required.

This tallies with my experience of Ashley Charles. They will go out of their way to screw you out of every penny they can and have the audacity to call their daylight robbery 'admin charges'. ...
