Worst agent possible.
As a house owner, I signed up to this agent trusting the name of a nationwide brand would deliver a minimum standard of service.
I am a house owner in Watford and signed up to a fully managed contract with Connells. The agent was very keen to sign me up and was fairly quick to find me a tenant which was more to do with the demand in the area than the agent.
Buy since, it has been a nightmare to deal with them. Very poor service on the management front , for every issue, the tenant and myself had to wait for months to get quotes.
One of the contractors they sent to check electrical issues, actually broke the back door of the house and told the tenant that it was a bad quality and needs to be changed.
It was the same door I had lived with for over 5 years and the tenant was happy with the quality until it was broken by the contractor sent by Connells.
Connells could not explain why and how the door broke when it was in perfectly good condition until then. it took them over 2 months to get quotes to get it repaired which I was expected to pay for.
When I complained about the poor service, they decided on their own to change my contract from a fully managed to a rent collection only without even consulting me, further more, decided to charge me almost the same fee (£20 less a month) for rent collection only rather than a fully managed contract.
When I queried it, they threaten me that I am contracted to them so I can not leave the contract .
It was frustrating that they can change the contract that I had signed without my permission and selectively use T&C from the contract that they choose to apply.
I am still trying to get the details on my tenant's deposit that was paid to them , with no straight answer from the agent.
I would strongly suggest to look elsewhere if you are looking for a half decent agent in this area. I don't think it is any better outside Watford, based on the fact that this agent was acting under the instructions of an area manager.

I no longer work for Connells. HOWEVER, THE ISSUES LISTED APPEAR TO BE PROPERTY MANANGEMENT ISSUES this is a different dept over which I had no control. All complaints were passed to my area manager as is Connells protocol. When the renewal came due the landlord decided to keep the tenants but dis instruct Connells to save the fee. It was the landlord who changed the service to save money, and judging by the condition of the property and his unwillingness to properly deal with the tenants complaints and concerns I think it says more about him than it does about an ARLA member with over 20 years in the industry. I have instructed my solicitor to deal with this matter as I have the emails from the landlord where he instructs connells to switch the service from management. as an aside, reading his 1st paragraph I was amused, please tell me of an agent who is NOT eager to sign up a landlord or indeed one who is not keen to let their property as soon as possible!! As soon as this industry becomes fully regulated we can weed out the cheap landlords and move forward professionally, The deposit was protected by TDS, and the landlord was given this info ( as was the tenant) at commencement of tenancy. If people are going to lie I suggest they do not put it in writing as libel is a serious offence and comes with a monetary penalty. see you in court Ravi.
