Most of the information I was given in response to questions during the tour turned out to be incorrect, such as is the parking allocated and checked? Is parking an issue here? When are the bins collected? Is the garage secure? Will the property be furnished? Will white goods be left here? Does the CCTV work?
We were then hounded through the credit check process, with threats of taking our deposit (already paid) and giving the property to someone else because it had taken more than 3 days for my manager to get back to them with a reference (He is Director of a £500M organisation). We finally cancelled my partners credit check as her organisation took even longer and had to use mine alone to please whirlybird. Obviously Whirlybird have no right to do this and we would have just ended up in small claims court extracting the deposit, but we needed somewhere to live so felt obliged to accept this atrocious behaviour.
We had to park the car on the road due to overcrowding and lack of checking of allocated spaces by any kind of attendant. The car was driven into and no details left, the CCTV did cover the spot but didn't work so the car was repaired at our expense.
The property was advertised as unfurnished and with a garage, but despite Whirlybird's promises, all white goods were left, a bed was left, a TV and cabinet were left along with chairs and other items. We were then told when we received the keys if we didn't want all this in the 1st floor flat we could put them in the garage as long as we took responsibility for their condition when we moved out. This is a huge unwelcome task, moving washing machines etc etc. not to mention the fact that we needed the secure garage for our own property... We finally squeezed all the landlords junk into the garage and ours in front (our bikes were later stolen due to the insufficient security of the garage).
The 6 monthly checks were impressively haphazard. Whirlybird complained about improvements we had made to the flat, but showed no interest in problems, such as a water leak and cracks appearing in the ceiling and paintwork. They would complain about something we had not done in one report then ignore it in the next. There appeared to be no system to these and they finally resulted in us receiving all the deposit back despite all the aggravation we received from Whirlybird while we were living there. This needless stress is extraordinarily unhelpful and did not improve the relationship. To then extract no deposit from us at the end just seemed to emphasise how pointless it all was.
I would strongly suggest both tenants and landlords avoid them if at all possible.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Expensive. They even said so themselves.
