We found these agents extremely helpful during the purchase of the property and they were especially good at keeping in touch with solicitors. We were always kept up-to-date which was useful However, we encountered a serious problem on the day of completion and this was when we were completely let down. Our vendors had gone on holiday abroad and left a set of keys with the agents which did NOT fit any locks at the property. At this point, when we were locked out of a property which we owned, we found them obstructive and hostile and their attitude was that this was a problem between ourselves and the vendors. They think that they have no duty of care to ensure that they are handing over the correct keys to the property which they are selling and exhibited a considerable lack of sympathy. Fortunately, we were not moving in that day otherwise we would have had even worse problems but our afternoon consisted of visits to our solicitor (who helped us enormously) and engaging a locksmith so that we could gain access. We hope that the agents will check in future when vendors leave keys so that no one else finds themselves in the same position.
