When I first went into the office and dealt with them they were lovely, I'm assuming now that it's because they just saw me as money. I was in a desperate situation to find somewhere to live and they fully took advantage of that. The six months we dealt with them was absolute hell.
We first saw issues when one of my housemates came back and they saw a leak in the kitchen, turns out the boiler had been leaking. Someone from Marlborough homes came round to have a look and had the cheek to try and blame this boiler leak on ourselves - sorry?! Did I go up to it with a sledge hammer or something? Absolutely not, he had no leg to stand on. He then turned into the most condescending person I've ever encountered, saying that the house was a mess (yes it needed to be tidied up a little, but I was working two jobs and the others were working full time in London, we weren't under the impression it was an inspection!) he also said that they would do weekly visits to ensure that the property was clean, I'm pretty sure this is illegal...
Anyway, we manage to get the boiler fixed for free, and fast forward a bit to the end of our lease. We learnt from the neighbours that the tenants before hand had actually been using the house for some illegal activity and it was left in a dump (also the gas and electricity machines had been rigged so we were paying off the previous tenants bills for the majority of our stay) Marlborough homes had managed to make the house look decent enough before we moved in with a lick of paint and new carpets, but the house was basically a polished turd. So many issues. One of them being that the wooden flooring underneath the carpet had bowed from the moisture of the previous tenants, which then caused a tear in the living room carpet. As a result of this, they chose to take a HEAP of money off our deposit. We all roughly put down about £600 as they insisted a 5 week deposit, of which we each got back around £80. It wasn't worth the fight at the time, and the staff are incredibly belittling and patronising, but now, having moved out nearly a year ago, they seemed to have messed up again. I urge anyone who wants to use this company not to. 100% not worth the hassle and they will deny everything.
