It's without surprise that I've found Douglas Allen to be an awful estate agent. We should have listened to our own judgement to begin with when we were approached about selling our flat as Sale By Tender. We considered the practice totally immoral, but were talked round in to doing it by Dan. Of course the decision was ours and we take the responsibility, but still we were heavily influenced by an agent of the market. People rarely buy and sell property in their lifetime so do lean on "experts" advice. Since the first day they have been terrible. Shortly after advertising the property as Sale By Tender, we asked them to change it because we finally realised how abhorrent the practice is. The viewings they set up were a joke - they hardly knew a thing about the property despite us telling them. They let our first buyer meander away without checking up on them and it was weeks before we knew anything about it. It took us a long time to sell our property (not their fault) but they were totally useless. We ended up having to get the details of our buyer so we could coordinate the sale ourselves. On top of this they recommended a conveyancing firm who were dreadful too. The last sting in the tail is that they totally over-charged us with a massive fee based on the Sale By Tender fee - which we dropped over a year before finally selling the flat. In comparison, we are using an excellent estate agent (Wilkinsons Estates) who have restored our faith. Next to them Douglas Allen are a truly awful company who have a blatant disregard for their clients and grab every bit of cash they can using salesmen tricks that I thought died out in the 80s. I feel shamed that we used them.
What agent could do to change your mind?

But most of all, treat their clients with respect and follow a decent code of practice. Don't hide behind clauses and contracts that they can see are immoral and not applicable. I've never had such an experience with a company - anywhere.

What agent could do to change your mind?
